Martha Caldwell

Martha Caldwell has 20+ years of experience in education. She teaches, consults with schools, conducts seminars for teachers, and writes about education. Her interactive teaching method incorporates inquiry-based learning, social-emotional learning, identity formation (race, class and gender) and ethics to achieve results that enhance empathy, stimulate critical thinking and catalyze higher order learning. She has developed courses in Mexican history and culture, African American history, women’s issues, peace and conflict in the Middle East, response to climate change, rites of passages, fairy tales, religion and ethics in Star Wars, and spoken word poetry. She teaches writing, literature, drama, and Inquiry into Identity (co-developed with Oman Frame) at the Paideia School in Atlanta, GA. She is the advisor for the middle level Girls’ Mentorship Program and the Gay/Straight Alliance. Fiercely intelligent and boundlessly creative, Martha consistently lifts up the voices of others. She brings compassion, insight and humor to her work.

This has been a wonderful experience for me-positive, well facilitated-a huge learning curve for me and for what I can bring back to my school and share.
